Andrea Kuzel has been ballroom dancing and competing on a national level for over 10 years. However, she did not grow up doing ballroom, jazz, tap or ballet. In fact, she did not take her first ballroom dance class until after graduating from the University of St. Thomas.
As a paralegal with all of her applications into law school, Andrea took her first ballroom dance class as a way to blow off the stress of 18 hour work days and preparing for trials. She was hooked.Andrea’s training as a ballroom dancer continued and she proceeded to compete on the national circuit with her instructor. Having a world finalist as an instructor gave Andrea the opportunity to train with some of the top coaches in the world, including Toni Redpath, Jonathan Roberts and Tony Dovolani.
After winning several competitions on the national circuit and becoming a World Finalist in Rising Star American Smooth, she moved to Wisconsin with her husband. Andrea was hired by a Fred Astaire studio only to find out that she not only loved dancing, she loved teaching and sharing her passion with others. Within months of teaching in the #1 region in the country for Fred Astaire studios, Andrea became a top teacher and won 7 out of 8 awards given for Performance in Instruction.
Andrea truly believes that ballroom dancing has the power to change lives and when she moved to Duluth and realized the weather was perfect for ballroom dancing, she opened Superior Ballroom Dance Studio to share the benefits of ballroom dancing with the amazing and unique community in Duluth. Together with her professional dance partner, Darren Franco, she has been teaching and performing in Duluth since September of 2012 and hopes to gradually make Duluth the ballroom dancing capital of the world!
