Duluth, Minnesota (April 1, 2015) – Mariusz Olszewski, a world-famous ballroom choreographer, visited Superior Ballroom Dance Studio, a dance center in Duluth. He stayed at the studio for two days, March 18 and 19, to help both the professionals and students prepare for the studio’s 2nd Anniversary Gala.
Mr. Olszewski hails from Poland and has traveled to many places to share his passion and talent as a dance artist and coach. He has performed at grand dance festivals in prominent stages including The Joyce Theater in New York, the Kennedy Center in D.C., and The Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis. He also choreographs for TV in the show You Can Dance, the Polish counterpart of the hit TV show So You Think You Can Dance.
Mr. Olszewski has coached champions in both the World and U.S. Professional American Smooth Champions. He also received the 2005 McKnight Artist Fellowship for a Dancer.
Mr. Olszewski is currently based in Minneapolis and comes occasionally to the Superior Ballroom Dance Studio to train staff and students in the past two years. Students express their delight about Mr. Olszewski’s involvement in the studio. “It’s amazing that someone of that caliber comes to Duluth…and he loves it here!” said Darlene Wolfe, one of the students of the studio since day one.
Superior Ballroom Dance Studio opened two years ago and started with two teachers and 20 students. Now, with six teachers and more than 150 students, it can be considered one of the fastest growing dance studios in Duluth, MN.
The event that the staff and students of the studio are preparing is for their second anniversary. The Second Anniversary Gala is tagged as “a show like nothing Duluth has ever seen.” The ballroom and Latin dinner show would be open to the public on April 17th in the Harborside Room at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC). The show would include performances from ballroom dancers of Twin Cities and the professionals of the studio, with wardrobe by Randall Designs, the costume designer of Dancing with the Stars. A social dance will follow.
